Saturday is the day. You get up in the morning, spill your coffee, trip over the dog, yell at the kid to put on matching shoes for the 4th time. You finally get out of the house, and head off to the first big store… today is the day you replace your TV stand. Standing in the first store, neither of the two options are exactly what you have in mind. Armed with a camera roll full of pins, screen shots and google search results, it’s just not what your pictured.
The shade of brown is too dark, or has too much red. Maybe it’s too short, or not long enough. Most stores will tell you it comes in in 4 colours but they only have 4″x4″ samples and expect you to buy it on the spot, pay up front before you have even had a really good look at it because it’s “custom order”. After five different stores, all the same story, and still nothing you want you now have a choice to make. Which option do you settle for? Or do you go to an over priced “boutique style” big name store that sells the same mass produced stuff, to make your home look like an Ikea version of fixer upper.
Faux reclaimed lumber, cheap hardwoods from Asia, ‘hand crafted’ in Malaysia or Mexico…. for only $1600. It looks great until the first ding, scuff or mark reveals it is nothing more than sawdust glued together. Hinge screws pull out of stripped holes, doors flex when you open them…. you get the picture.

We purchase our lumber from a few well-selected places. All my hardwood, select softwoods and quality plywood products, come from a local family-run supplier, Reimer Hardwoods, who for 40 years have served this industry. We proudly purchase from other great companies like Windsor Plywood, Lee Valley, and support various other small businesses.
Black walnut, rustic white oak, rift sawn white oak, Ambrosia maple, hard maple, ash, alder, cherry, poplar, fir, Eastern pine, rough Eastern cut pine, reclaimed fir…. and the list goes on…. this is what custom built is. We use about 20-25 different stains, and we proudly use Behr paint. They can match most of the big brand name paint stores as well.
You get to choose painted or stained, custom sizes which means instead of trying to find the piece that fits your space, we design the piece that fits the space. Maybe you have an awkward spot. We can deal with that.
When you custom order, you control the design. Do you need drawers, cupboard space, wine rack? Maybe there is a specific item you want to store and you need the shelf spacing to house it. No problem.
Build the coffee table to the living room, instead of rearranging to the coffee table.
Maybe your entry way to the house is narrow and stock cabinets are too big. All our large cabinets are built in pieces which can easily be moved in and out
Perhaps you don’t know what you want and you are looking for a fresh set of eyes to take a blank space and make it usable.
